Student-athletes joining the Brno Lions have the opportunity to pursue university degrees in English at three respected institutions in the city of Brno: NEWTON University (NU), Brno University of Technology (BUT), and Masaryk University (MU). Each university offers a unique academic experience while allowing student-athletes to balance their studies with high-level hockey competition.
Which school is right for you?
NEWTON University (NU) is an excellent choice for students seeking a business-focused education with a schedule designed to support student-athletes. Its Global Business and Management program combines practical learning, small class sizes, and strong industry connections.
Brno University of Technology (BUT) is a great fit for students interested in engineering, technology, architecture, or business within a technical university environment.
Masaryk University (MU) offers a broad range of academic opportunities and one of the largest selections of English-taught programs in the Czech Republic, including business, economics, and many other fields.
NEWTON University
NEWTON University is a modern private university focused on business, management, entrepreneurship, and leadership development. Located in Brno’s Technology Park, the university emphasizes practical learning, industry engagement, and preparing students for careers in the global business environment.
For Brno Lions student-athletes, NEWTON University's Global Business and Management bachelor's degree offers a flexible structure designed to support academic success while competing at a high level. Classes are organized across three days per week, including online instruction and on-campus seminars, allowing student-athletes to balance coursework, training, travel, and competition.
Students also benefit from the university's extensive professional development opportunities through the NEWTON ecosystem, including mentoring programs, networking events, leadership development activities, language skill enhancement, and opportunities to connect with both Czech and international students.

Masaryk University (MU)
Masaryk University is one of the Czech Republic’s leading institutions, with over 30,000 students and a strong international presence. MU offers a wide range of degree programs taught in English, including business, economics, and other fields.
Through our partnership with the European Union Collegiate Hockey League (EUCHL), Brno Lions student-athletes can apply to MU’s Business Management and Finance programs, as well as explore additional English-taught programs.

MU offers two enrollment periods each year:
• Fall semester (application deadline: April 30)
• Spring semester (application deadline: October 15)
Student-athletes may begin competing with the Brno Lions in the fall and start classes in the spring semester if preferred.
