BRNO Lions Sign Italian Defenseman Mattia Gaier

BRNO, Czech Republic — The BRNO Lions are proud to announce the signing of Italian defenseman Mattia Gaier.

The 2005-born defenseman from Pieve di Cadore, Italy joins the Lions after spending the past two seasons in Canada with Universel Collège Sherbrooke, gaining experience in both the USPHL Premier and NCDC.  

At 5’10” and 190 lbs, Gaier has produced from the blue line throughout his time in Sherbrooke. Across his USPHL Premier experience with Universel, he recorded 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points in 59 games.  

Gaier also stepped into the NCDC during the 2025–26 season, appearing in 38 games and recording 8 points on one goal and seven assists. In USPHL Premier action that same season, he added five goals and three assists in 16 games.  

Before making the move to North America, Gaier developed in Italy, including time with Pieve di Cadore, Cortina-Alleghe U19 and Alleghe.  

Now, the Italian defenseman returns to Europe for the next chapter of his career with the BRNO Lions, where he will wear #16.
