The Brno Lions program was established to address several key challenges facing both North American and European hockey players today.
Recent NCAA rule changes have displaced many athletes who were once on a traditional collegiate path, while others have been forced into costly programs that offer limited playing opportunities and little to no pathway to continue their hockey careers after graduation.
The Brno Lions, in partnership with the EUCHL, provide a solution by combining affordable, high-quality education with a clear pathway to professional hockey in Europe.
As the cost of education continues to rise in North America, the Brno University of Technology offers student-athletes an internationally recognized and accredited academic experience. With five bachelor’s degree programs taught in English, players can pursue their educational goals while continuing to compete at a high level.
Unlike traditional NCAA or ACHA programs, the EUCHL environment provides consistent exposure to professional scouts from across Europe. This creates a direct and realistic pathway for advancement beyond the collegiate level.
Within approximately three years—the standard time required to complete a degree—student-athletes are positioned to transition into professional hockey opportunities in respected European leagues.
The reality is that NCAA hockey cannot expand quickly enough to accommodate the growing number of capable players. The Brno Lions and EUCHL bridge this gap by offering a cost-effective, academically sound, and hockey-focused alternative—one that accelerates both educational and athletic development.
