BRNO Lions Sign Montgomery Wood

BRNO, Czech Republic — The BRNO Lions are proud to announce the signing of American defenseman Montgomery Wood for the upcoming season.

Wood, a native of Burlington, Vermont, joins the Lions as a versatile and physically imposing player with experience in the USPHL Premier. Standing at 6’5” and 220 pounds, the 2006-born left-shot brings exceptional size, strength, and versatility, with experience playing both forward and defense, though he is expected to bolster the Lions’ blue line.

Few players possess the combination of size and mobility that Wood brings to the ice. His long reach, physical presence, and willingness to engage in puck battles make him difficult to play against in all three zones. Whether defending the rush, protecting the front of the net, or winning board battles, he uses his frame effectively while maintaining composure with the puck.

Wood’s versatility is another valuable asset. Having experience at multiple positions has given him a strong understanding of the game from different perspectives, allowing him to make smart reads, support the play in transition, and contribute at both ends of the rink. His ability to adapt to different situations provides the coaching staff with additional flexibility throughout the season.

Still only 20 years old, Wood continues to develop into a dependable two-way player. His work ethic, coachability, and competitive mindset align with the culture the BRNO Lions are building, and the organization believes he has significant potential as he continues his hockey journey in Europe.

The addition of Wood further strengthens the Lions’ defensive corps with another young North American player eager to compete and continue his development at the collegiate level.

The BRNO Lions would like to officially welcome Montgomery Wood to the organization.
