BRNO Lions Sign Australian Defenseman Daniel Koudelka

BRNO, Czech Republic — The BRNO Lions are proud to announce the signing of Australian defenseman Daniel Koudelka for the upcoming season.

The 2006-born Adelaide native will wear #5 for the Lions and brings an impressive combination of international experience, puck-moving ability and senior-level hockey experience to the BRNO blue line.

Koudelka has established himself as one of Australia’s promising young defensemen. The left-shot blueliner developed through the South Australian hockey system before making the jump to the Adelaide Adrenaline of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL).

His introduction to senior hockey was an impressive one.

Koudelka made his AIHL debut during the 2024 season and quickly established himself with Adelaide. His rookie campaign was ultimately recognized with AIHL Rookie of the Year honours, as well as Adelaide Adrenaline’s own Rookie of the Year award.

He followed that up with another full season in 2025, appearing in 28 games and recording 2 goals and 7 assists for Adelaide.

Koudelka has also become a regular representative of Team Australia on the international stage, including appearances at both the U18 and U20 levels.

At the 2026 IIHF U20 World Championship Division II-B, Koudelka produced an outstanding tournament from the blue line. He recorded 7 assists and 7 points in just 5 games, finishing third among all players in the tournament in assists.

That production provides a glimpse of what Koudelka can bring to BRNO.

Rather than being limited to a stay-at-home role, Koudelka has demonstrated an ability to move the puck, distribute from the back end and help generate offense in transition. His vision and passing ability give the Lions another defenseman capable of contributing to the attack while still handling his responsibilities on the blue line.

And for Koudelka, playing in Czechia won’t be completely unfamiliar.

Earlier in his development, the Australian defenseman spent time in the Czech hockey system with HC Kobra Praha U17, giving him previous experience adapting to the European game.

Now he returns to Czechia for the next chapter of his career — this time in BRNO.

With senior AIHL experience, international experience with Australia and an offensive dimension from the blue line, Koudelka adds another intriguing piece to the Lions’ defensive group.

The BRNO Lions are excited to officially welcome Daniel Koudelka to the organization.
